2025 Q3 Cross Seminar

On February 11th, we held our quarter three cross seminar. This is a half day in-house “field trip” where we get together to read a text and then have a seminar led by our upperclassmen. We usually finish with some sort of project or service activity. This quarter, to continue our series “On Adulting,” we read “Becoming Better Adults,” by Brad Montague, specifically chapter 11: “Answering the Call.” This piece had profound things to say about adult mentor relationships and how adults should talk to students who are planning their own adulthood. We also studied a section about carrying around “backpacks of awkwardness,” a reflection on bringing things into adulthood that metaphorically should be left behind, like shame, isolation, self-doubt, and more. The project for this text was creating the “backpack of awkwardness” for ourselves, and then repacking it into a smaller fanny pack that only included the parts that would make us better and happier.
