Let’s do it again!

WDS Culture Night to see “SIX” the musical was so much fun and we want to do it again!
The best date available is April 16th, which is the same night as the ASD Band Festival, but we can’t find another date that works for all stakeholders. Never the less, we’d like as many people to join us as possible. We had 62 people join us for Six and reserved 60 tickets for this event, but hope to bring up to 100 if tickets remain available.
It will be the same format as last time– leave about 4:15, go to the museum for an hour, have dinner at 5th ave mall, explore the mall, go to the PAC to see the musical, and then return to Chugiak about 10 pm. This show is longer and has an intermission, so expect an extra 45 minutes over last time.
Cost: $70 per person, payable on Parent Connect. We have options up to four people. If you want more, please buy combinations of 1-4, or send a check payable to WDS in with your student’s permission slip.
Permission slips and payment are due April 1st.
Date: April 16th, 4-10pm
Included: Bus, museum entry, dinner, and show ticket
FAQ’s
Can parents come? YES! We want as many parents/guardians/grandparents as possible to come. You do not have to come in order to send your WDS student, though.
Can we drive to Anchorage and meet you there? Yes and no. Parents/guardians can drive themselves and/or their students and meet us at the museum. Students cannot drive themselves there, even if they have permission from their parent. Students can ride the bus even if their parent wants to drive themselves.
Can non-WDS students go? YES. WDS students can bring siblings, friends, and dates as long as they are Chugiak students and complete the field trip form. This is a super kid friendly event and we’d like everyone to come! Disney recommends age 6 and up. The PAC will allow entry to any one of any age, as long as they have a ticket.
Can non-Chugiak students go? YES, if a parent or guardian is chaperoning and the student is mature enough to sit through the show. See below for content warnings.
What is this musical about? It’s a broadway production of Aladdin based on the Disney version. Expect it to be similar to both Disney adaptions, but not identical.
For Come From Away, all 10th-12th grade students had to annotate some articles and then seminared on the musical in Ms. Handeland’s class. Will there be any assignments related to this in my students class? Nope. Not this time. I (Ms. Handeland) will offer an extra credit response for students who can share what they thought of the play, what they learned at the museum, and give feedback on the event, but no one will be required to do anything academic related to this event.
Can I pay for another student’s ticket? Yup. We will have payment for the field trip set up on parent connect for $70. If you want to donate an extra ticket for a student in need, you can send $70 via check to the school. Please make it payable to Chugiak WDS.
I want my student to go, but we don’t have the funds. A scholarship application will be available in Ms. Handeland’s room starting March 20th. Please have your student pick one up and fill out the questions on a separate sheet of paper or on a google doc and submit it ASAP. Students will be notified as funds become available.
I still have questions. Okay! Email handeland_mackenna@asdk12.org, or better yet, have your student practice self-advocacy and ask them to come find me at lunch or after class to get clarification.
